Bull fighting

Bull fighting, in reality oxen fighting, was usually permitted during carnival period with the permission of the Committee of Ten. The bulls were attacked by trained dogs, while they were being held by marksmen, whose skill consisted of helping the oxen escape the assaults of the dogs. The print is an engraving by Cadorin from the 17th century.
