EUROPEAN CITIES COMPARE NOTES AT THE DOGE’S PALACE

An important meeting will take place in St Mark’s Square on Monday 5 September. The Doge’s Palace will host the first international forum ‘Mille città, milioni di cittadini: un progetto per il nostro futuro’ (Thousand cities, millions of citizens: a plan for our future). It is an event favoured by the mayor of Venice Luigi Brugnaro, organised by the city council in association with the Fondazione Musei Civici and Vela spa, who wanted to invite numerous mayors from European cities to compare notes, going beyond the concept of the state, on the big changes taking place and on giving cities a central role in such changes on the basis of important values like justice, equity and progress. Changes that must be guided, which often involve facing not insignificant problems and are common to many cities. It is obvious to think of the tourism question frequently raised by the Associazione Piazza San Marco and something that many mayors will have to take into account in future. Mayors or their delegates from Moscow, Madrid, Nantes, Dubrovnik, Heraklion, Corfu and Malaga have agreed to take part.
