ST MARK’S BASIN COLOURED BY 8000 BOATS FOR THE VOGALONGA

An extraordinary spectacle was offered to the entire world this morning from St Mark’s Basin. More than 8000 people rowed for Venice on the occasion of the ‘Vogalonga 2015’ and to once again offer a future to this splendid city. Today at 9 am thousands of boats moved out of St Mark’s Basin, cheered on by numerous people already crowding the quays, and crossed the northern lagoon in a long parade to reach the Cannaregio canal and the Grand Canal. The many foreign boats show how this event created to defend rowing in Venice has become an international phenomenon. It is a show on water that only Venice is able to present to the whole world and that, at least for a few hours, once again made the oar the star of the city and its lagoon.
