THE ALDO MANUZIO GREEK EDITIONS ON DISPLAY AT THE MARCIANA LIBRARY

The Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, in association with the Fondazione Aikaterini Laskaridis, yesterday opened the exhibition ‘Le edizioni greche di Aldo Manuzio e i suoi collaboratori greci (c. 1495 - 1515)’, aimed at making a wider public aware of the contribution made to Greek literature by this famous literary man and publisher. The exhibition, as reported by the Gazzettino di Venezia in an article by Daniela Ghio, is curated by Konstantinos Sp. Staikos and being staged in the monumental rooms of the Marciana Library as part of the integrated visit to the Piazza San Marco museums (entrance from the Museo Correr Ala Napoleonica, St Mark’s Square, from 10 am to 6 pm. Until 24 October). The books on display, numbering about 42, almost all come from the historic library of the Fondazione Aikaterini Laskaridis, one of the richest libraries of the Greek world, which holds incunabula of great historic value. The exhibition brings to completion the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the death of Aldo Manuzio, marked by the city with various events of a high cultural level.
