VENICE (AND THE ST MARK’S AREA) AMONG THE MOST PHOTOGRAPHED CITIES ACCORDING TO GOOGLE MAPS

An odd and interesting article by Simone Cosimi appeared today on Repubblica.it. He writes about the top ten most photographed cities in the world according to the dedicated portal Panoramio, the photographic community of Google Maps. New York is the most photographed city in the world, followed by Rome, while Florence and Venice appear among the top ten. The portal seems to decidedly recognise Europe: of the ten cities selected, a good seven are on the old continent. The exceptions are New York in first place, as mentioned, Buenos Aires and Istanbul. Regarding the city of the Doges, making use of the research through a navigable Sightmap (in photos) made by Google to show the destinations attracting the most attention of the community, it can be noted once again that the St Mark’s area is the most photographed. St Mark’s Square, the Bell-tower and the Riva degli Schiavoni with the St Mark’s Basin behind inevitably get the consensus of the numerous ‘photographers’, who then share their snaps and, we could say, their thrills.
