WORK TO MAKE THE SANT’APOLLONIA EMBANKMENT SAFE TO START SOON

Work will soon start on consolidating the San’Apollonia embankment, which has for some time been ‘slipping’ towards the adjacent ‘Rio della Canonica’ canal, showing progressive deterioration. This was announced by Carlo Alberto Tesserin, Primo Procuratore di San Marco (in photo). The operation will be guaranteed by regional and European funding. On this occasion the Primo Procuratore pointed out that it is hoped this work will be the prelude to a more important project concerning the protection of St Mark’s Square and its basilica from the high tides. Mr Tesserin noted, as the Associazione Piazza San Marco has been doing for some time, that it is unthinkable that the Mose be in operation and the square flooded even with medium-low tides. The Primo Procuratore thus called on local and national institutions to act on this as soon as possible.
