A BEATIFICATION IN ST MARK’S BASILICA FOR THE FIRST TIME
A beatification, that of Don Luca Passi, the founder priest of the Sisters of Saint Dorothy, will take place in Venice for the first time at St Mark’s Basilica on 13 April 2013. There has never before been a religious proclamation of this level in the city and for this reason the solemn ceremony will be conducted by the patriarch Mons. Francesco Moraglia and Cardinal Angelo Amato, prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, who will come from the Vatican on behalf of Pope Benedict XVI. The pope established some years ago that beatifications can also take place in the home diocese of the blessed. The beatification will be preceded by a conference on the figure of the priest and his relationship with the Venetian church on the afternoon of 22 March in the Sant’Apollonia room near the Diocesan Museum. Given the possibility of mass public participation, access to St Mark’s Basilica for this important religious event will only be allowed to those with a special pass, which can be requested online at web www.smsd.it.
