AN END TO THE GIANT HOARDINGS ON THE NAPOLEONIC WING IN ST MARK’S SQUARE

The Associazione Piazza San Marco expresses its satisfaction with the decision made by the Direzione regionale per i Beni Culturali to suspend the display of maxi-hoardings on the Napoleonic Wing in St Mark’s Square from 31 December 2013. So from this date the big advertising signs that had sparked so much discussion and debate on the suitability of these in places of great historical-monumental importance will be removed from the St Mark’s area. In theory they were intended to pay for the restoration of the Correr Museum facade, but it is still not clear whether the advertising revenues were used to achieve this important objective. It must be noted that the Associazione Piazza San Marco had for years been publicising this anomaly and not long ago - see previous news items - asked for clarification on this from the city council and the Soprintendenza.
