CANOVA’S MARBLES SHINE AGAIN AT THE CORRER

The ‘Sublime Canova’ will shine again thanks to a new project by Franca Coin’s Venice Foundation. The Foundation will focus on Canova’s early works held at the Museo Correr and, thanks to the cooperation and support of the US Friends of Venice Italy, will hand over a cheque for 260,000 euros for restoration of the works to the president of the Fondazione Musei Civici Walter Hartsarich on Saturday 7 June. This sum was raised through micro-donations in a long fundraising effort by the Venice Foundation that has previously allowed the Dome of Creation in St Mark’s basilica and the treasures in the Palazzo Fortuny to be restored. ‘Sublime Canova’ is the first part of the ‘Grande Correr’ project (with a total planned investment of two million euros), which will lead to the complete renovation of the museum, concerning the architectural, museological and exhibiting spheres along with public services.
