Christmas lights up in St Mark’s Square on 1 December!!!
At 6 o’clock on Friday 1 December 2017, the chairman of the Associazione Piazza San Marco Claudio Vernier and the Rey families invite all members and supporters to the Gran Caffè Lavena for the traditional Christmas toast. The lights that will make St Marks Square and its surrounds shine will be switched on on this occasion, creating a really evocative moment. The Association, with the cooperation of the Comune di Venezia, Vela Spa and Blachere Italia Srl, has once again managed to light up the most beautiful drawing room in the world and its surrounding areas on the occasion of the Christmas festivities, thanks to the support of its members and some local businessmen. All the businesses that have contributed to the event will be given a film transfer with the Association’s logo and the writing ‘Io illumino il Natale’ to be shown in their premises. The lighting pathway will unfold as last year under the Procuratie Vecchie and Nuove, starting from the intrados of the Torre dell’Orologio arch, through to the Ponte delle Ostreghe and continuing in Calle delle Ostreghe towards Giglio. The Ala Napoleonica and the Sottoportico de l’Arco Celeste will of course also be included, then on towards Bacino Orseolo, Calle Larga Ascensione, Calle Seconda Ascensione, Calle Vallaresso, Salizada San Moisè – with the relative Campo - and Via XXII Marzo (with a branch into Calle de le Veste and beyond Ponte Veste in Calle del Caffettier). The arch of the passage into St Mark’s Square from the Mercerie in particular will be a roof of warm white light and flashing star, while all the porticoes in St Mark’s Square will be lit up with curtains of warm white light. All the lighting wires of the waves will be finished in gold. This lighting project will then also be in harmony with the My Christmas Venice event, directed by the architect Chiara Bocchini, and the beautiful Christmas Tree last year placed in front of the church of the Salute will also be replicated in Piazzetta San Marco. A lighting event that will certainly create a wonderful atmosphere appreciated by Venice’s guests and all the Venetians. So we’ll be expecting you on Friday 1 December!!!
