EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH TIDE AND THE FLOODED SQUARE MAKES THE NEWS AGAIN

The bad weather that has been battering Italy did not spare Venice. Today the high tide reached 124 cm above sea level and the forecast for tomorrow is for 125 cm at 11.30 am. It flooded many parts of the city and St Mark’s Square was completely submerged. The same situation is also expected tomorrow with a repeat of the difficulties for residents and businesses. The main online newspapers and principle mass media national television stations today featured the high tide in the St Mark’s area and the Square, which unintentionally once again became the image of a phenomenon that is not entirely understood. This is shown by the attached photo taken by members of the association Venessia.com with a pretty girl making the most of the high tide to have herself photographed in the Square half naked and in lingerie, perhaps for some publicity stunt. The exceptionally high tides are not only a striking - or worse conventional - phenomenon but, especially for St Mark’s Square and the entire surrounding area, a problem for the historic and architectural monuments in this splendid place and an economic problem that puts various businesses in the area into continuous difficulty.
