FIRST AID POST OPENS IN ST MARK’S SQUARE

After the greater security and information offered by the return of the ‘San Marco Guardians’, the latest news is the return to the Square of a first aid post for the numerous tourists that crowd the St Mark’s area, especially in summer. Tourists will be able to make use of the free service offered beneath the Procuratie Nuove from 1 June to 29 September, from 2 to 6 pm every day of the week. It will be provided by volunteers from the Venice provincial committee of the Italian Red Cross and the Italian First Aid Corp of the Order of Malta, coordinated by the central operational medical emergency services. It is worth remembering, as reported today in a specific article in the Gazzettino, that in 2012, during the 23 days the service was available, 98 people were assisted, almost all tourists, at an average of 4.3 a day, and three people immediately taken to hospital. The peak in assistance was recorded in the last weeks of August.
