MARINETTI’S FUTURIST MANIFESTO RETURNS TO ST MARK’S SQUARE

A special event in St Mark’s Square on Saturday 2 March 2013. The famous Futurist declaration ‘Contro Venezia Passista’ made by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti in 1910 will be chanted with a megaphone in the evening. 1910 was the year Marinetti brought the Futurist movement into vogue, meeting Boccioni and Carlo Carrà and also bringing Balla and Severini into the movement. It was also the year of the famous launch of its manifesto and leaflets acclaiming the movement from the Clock Tower in St Mark’s Square. It is thus not by chance that the event, featuring Roberto ‘Freak’ Antoni, historic leader of the Italian rock band Skiantos, will take place beneath the Clock Tower. There will then be a concert at 9.30 pm at the Teatro San Gallo, also in St Mark’s, with the Vicenza group ‘Il Magnetofono’. The group will present its album of the same name on which the same ‘Freak’ Antoni also appears as guest performer.
