NEW PROCURATIA PROJECT TO PROTECT ST MARK’S BASILICA FROM THE HIGH TIDES

A new Procuratia di San Marco project to avert the frequent flooding of St Mark’s Basilica caused by low-medium tides will be presented in the next few days in detail. The project, writes Il Gazzettino, is intended to eradicate the high water from the area in front of the basilica by closing the drains and reducing the number of floods by interrupting the current hydraulic connection between the water level in the basin and the narthex, which comes in through the rainwater drains. The project, by mandate of the Primo Procuratore Carlo Alberto Tesserin, will be drawn up by Pierpaolo Campostrini (photo) director of Corila. The proposal requires an investment of 2.5 million euros, which its proponents hope to obtain through government assistance and from private investors.
