NEW YEAR’S EVE 2014: ONCE AGAIN A WHITE NIGHT IN ST MARK’S SQUARE
Like last year, New Year’s Eve 2014 will once again be ‘White’, with those coming to St Mark’s Square being asked to wear white clothes. Thousands of ice lights will greet the Venetians and tourists who come to the Square to farewell 2013 and watch the fireworks display in St Mark’s Basin. People will be welcomed around the white stage in the Square from 10.30 pm, with surprise lighting to create a wonderful ice star, to wait for midnight with the various entertainments organised for the event. Music, games and numerous effects will warm up the atmosphere prior to the fireworks display, which will begin immediately after the midnight toast. A wonderful atmosphere will thus be created in an already evocative place, lit from 8 December with beautiful illuminations along the old and new Procuratie. As usual, it is hoped that the festivities will not be spoilt but stay solely festive and happy, considering the monumental and delicate nature of the place.
