ST MARK’S SQUARE: THE PROVINCIAL COMMITTEE FOR SAFETY SUMMONED

Numerous policemen, also in plain clothes, have been patrolling St Mark’s Square in recent days after various reports, stopping illegal traders and bringing back some order. Meanwhile, the prefecture now intends taking control of the situation, as requested several times by the Associazione Piazza San Marco, and has announced an official meeting of the provincial committee for order and safety on Friday 21 February. It will certainly be attended by Alberto Nardi, president of the Associazione Piazza San Marco, on the front line in defence of decorum and lawfulness in St Mark’s Square and for some time hoping for powerful action by the prefect. Mr Nardi, interviewed several times by local papers in recent days, also recalled that there has been an obvious return of pigeons to St Mark’s Square, thanks to the ease of finding illegally sold grain. Mr Nardi will also certainly put this question on the table of the meeting, to be chaired by the prefect Domenico Cuttaia (in photo).
