ST MARK’S SQUARE THE WORLD’S ‘DRAWING ROOM’

The Procuratie vecchie, about 2000 square metres of office space, will soon host major international institutions. The Venice city council is currently negotiating with Generali to obtain some of the space to be used as the representational offices of important institutions that could bring further prestige to the Square. Such new offices would open alongside those already present, such as Aspen and the Council of Europe. These are not merely symbolic offices but also bring activity to the city. The Council of Europe, for example, now organises interesting courses at San Servolo. According to city councillor Bruno Filippini, Emergency and the World Health Organisation (WHO) are soon to arrive, while the Ermitage Italia centre is already about to be opened.
