ST MARK’S SQUARE WILL HOST THE HERMITAGE, WITH PUTIN’S APPROVAL
The agreement between the director of the important Russian museum Michail Piotrovsky and the mayor of Venice Giorgio Orsoni will be officially signed today in Trieste in the presence of the Russian president Vladimir Putin and the Italian prime minister Enrico Letta. This will officially launch the collaboration between the Venetian cultural world and that of St Petersburg, which will lead to the famous Hermitage museum having premises in Venice located in the Procuratie Vecchie in St Mark’s Square, owned by Assicurazioni Generali but currently used by the Venice city council. It is a relationship between Italy and Russia that, thanks to the work of Maurizio Cecconi, secretary of Ermitage Italia, is forged once again and will enrich the St Mark’s area with a new and internationally prestigious cultural presence.
