THE ‘INVASIVE’ ADVERTISING BANNER FOR THE MANET EXHIBITION IS ALSO MOVED
After the ‘shed’, St Mark’s Square is also freed of the advertising banner for the Manet exhibition being held in the Doge’s Palace until 18 August. The banner was strangely positioned in one of the most symbolic, well-known and photographed parts of the Doge’s Palace. It was hung above the two pink columns that mark the place from which the Doge looked out over St Mark’s Square. So the banner, like the metal ‘shed’ previously set up at the base of the bell tower, has been moved by Società Vela technicians, at the request of the Soprintendente Renata Codello, to another facade of the Doge’s Palace, freeing the ducal columns. The Associazione Piazza San Marco has expressed its opposition to the confused management and intrusiveness of the big advertising hoardings and banners in the St Mark’s area several times in the local press.
