THE PROTEST GOES … INTO THE SQUARE
The mobilization of Italian teachers and students over recent days in defence of public schools also involved St Mark’s Square. The Michelangelo Guggenheim state art school improvised a musical flash mob in the Square. An artistic action that was absolutely peaceful – an aspect that must be emphasised – in which the students performed a propitiatory dance against the ministerial cuts in education, then took off their jumpers and sweatshirts to show the people and the photographers and journalists present their white T-shirts acclaiming art and freedom. The students chose St Mark’s Square to proclaim their hardship partly because of the great historic and artistic value it represents.
